Westminster City Council v Owadally and another

Criminal law – Trial. The Divisional Court quashed the indications of pleas by counsel on behalf of the respondents in the magistrates' court, the magistrates' court committal of the respondents for sentence to the Crown Court and the decision of the Crown Court, concluding that the pleas of guilty were invalid. Only the respondents could have indicated pleas of guilty and the lapse of some 21 months, together with their participation in confiscation proceedings did not affect that.
