Personal Injury: Quantum Case. Road traffic accident. Orthopaedic injuries, psychiatric and psychological damage. PSLA of £12,500. The five-year-old claimant sustained facial injuries, including airbag burns, and a greenstick (distal radius) fracture of the left wrist, recovering in four months. The psychological symptoms were long-standing and persistent, lasting eight years. She was diagnosed with Adjustment Disorder with Anxiety. She was very reluctant to get back in a car and became very frightened and anxious. She experienced mood disturbance, including nightmares, which affected her sleep, intrusive thoughts, fear of the dark and flickering lights, along with symptoms of travel anxiety.
