Sentence – Imprisonment. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, in allowing the defendant's appeal against a sentence imposed for burglary, held that, on the facts, a sentence of 26 months' imprisonment for a (non-dwelling house) burglary was manifestly excessive. Whilst the aggravating factors justified the sentencing judge in taking the two-year starting point indicated in the range for a category 1 offence, taking the two-year starting point and deducting one‑third for the guilty plea, the appropriate sentence for the offence of burglary was 16 months' imprisonment.
