Sentence – Extended term of imprisonment. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, held, in allowing the defendant's appeal against sentence, that the judge was not entitled, in all the circumstances, to pass, in total, an extended sentence of seven years, comprising a custodial element of four years and an extension period of three years, for a count of simple arson and a count of arson reckless as to whether life was endangered. The extended sentence was quashed and substituted with a concurrent term of three-and-a-half years.
