R (Health and Safety Executive) v Conocophillips (UK) Ltd

Sentence – Fine. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, dismissed the defendant company's application for leave to appeal against sentence, for three counts of being in contravention of a requirement imposed under a Regulation, contrary to s 33(1)(c) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. In all the circumstances, an overall fine of £3m, which had taken account of the mitigation and credit for a plea of guilty, had not been in any way arguably manifestly excessive.
