Sentence – Manslaughter. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, held that where a killing resulted from a campaign of domestic violence, that was a serious aggravating feature that had to be reflected in the sentence imposed. In the present case, the judge had failed to factor in that element when he sentenced the offender to 10 years' imprisonment for an offence of manslaughter of his partner. Accordingly, that sentence was quashed, on the basis of being unduly lenient, and substituted for a term of 15 years' imprisonment.
