Sentence – Sexual offences. In a reference by the Attorney General, pursuant to s 36 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, the Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, held that, in all the circumstances, a sentence of three years' imprisonment for an offence of assault by penetration, contrary to s 2 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, had been unduly lenient. That sentence would be quashed and substituted by a term of four years' imprisonment.
