Criminal law – Trial. The judge's order, prohibiting publication of any report of the defendant's trial for fraud until after the jury returned its verdict, should not have been made, as fair and accurate contemporaneous reporting of the trial would not have given rise to any risk of prejudice. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, in allowing the appellant BBC's appeal, distilled the principles that emerged from the authorities and made some general observations about reporting restrictions orders.
