Senior Lawyer

As England’s independent regulator of qualifications, examinations and assessments, Ofqual’s job is to maintain standards, to make sure that qualifications accurately reflect the knowledge and skills people have attained through a range of different learning methods. We work with other Civil Service departments across the spectrum of education to deliver on our priorities and to ensure the best possible outcomes for learners in England.

Ofqual is undergoing a period of growth and there has never been a more exciting time to apply. We are growing our Legal team to meet our growth aspirations. We have an expert team of in-house lawyers who are responsible for a number of diverse areas, including enforcement, regulatory policy, data management and information rights management.

We are looking for two experienced lawyers, who will have responsibility for providing high quality, targeted and accessible legal advice to craft and establish Ofqual’ s regulatory policy, conditions and regulatory framework.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the public or regulatory sector, be comfortable working autonomously, but also have the ability to work effectively with others across the organisation, demonstrating the behaviours that are so important at Ofqual. You will be equally comfortable leading and handling your own portfolio of matters but capable of working within a multi-disciplinary environment. You will be ably supported by other members of the experienced team where necessary, particularly in relation to projects which require input from multiple legal specialisms.

It’s an exciting time to join us. As an integral part of the legal team at Ofqual and your work will help us deliver our goals and objectives.

Ofqual is a rewarding, dynamic place to work. The team strongly encourages flexible working and personal learning & development.

Diversity and Inclusion is important to us. We actively encourage applications both from those within the Civil Service, and outside. We particularly encourage applications from those of a BAME background and those with disabilities, who are currently under-represented within Ofqual at this level. We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment.
