Head of Governance and Data Protection

Starting salary: £51,669 per annum

There has never been a more exciting time to be involved in local government. The pandemic has highlighted a series of huge challenges that London’s local authorities face in leading their places and communities in the coming years.  It has also shown what local government is capable of in delivering key services to the people who need them most when it matters.

London Councils represents the 32 boroughs and the City of London. We work closely with our member councils and a range of other partners across the capital to get the best deal for Londoners and to ensure that London’s local authorities have the resources, freedoms and powers to do the best possible job for their residents and local businesses.  We also run a number of services on behalf of the boroughs, including the Freedom Pass and Taxicard, as well as running a pan London programme of grants to community and voluntary organisations.

We are looking for someone to join us right at the heart of the organisation and able to help us deliver the highest standards of governance and support to political decision making.  You will be able to provide legal advice on corporate governance and regulatory obligations in complex situations to colleagues.

You will have experience of advising on data protection, information security and information risks and will act as the statutory Data Protection Officer.

As the Head of Governance and Data Protection, you will work closely with the political and managerial leadership within London Councils on all matters relating to political governance to ensure delivery and scrutiny of the London wide work of London Councils, with day to day responsibility for Committee and Member Services.

You will need to demonstrate good leadership and organisational skills and have a proven ability to work with senior local government officers.

Closing date for applications: 12 noon on Tuesday 6 April 2021.

Indicative interview date: Friday 16 April 2021.
