Civil Liberties and Human Rights Barrister

Garden Court Chambers is a leading multi-disciplinary set with a strong belief in human rights and social justice. We are recognised as one of the leading chambers in the UK specialising in civil liberties and human rights.

Our Civil Liberties and Human Rights team specialises in public inquiries, inquests and claims against public authorities, with our work carried out nationwide. We are instructed on high profile cases such as the Grenfell Inquiry, the Undercover Policing Inquiry, the Brook House Inquiry and the Child Sexual Abuse Inquiry.

We have a proud history of winning contested cases on behalf of claimants in domestic, pan-European and international courts. Our cases have advanced the law and we have overturned great injustices in landmark inquests and judgments.

Our civil liberties and human rights barristers have long worked with campaigning and other organisations such as INQUEST, Liberty, JUSTICE, Just for Kids Law, and the British Institute of Human Rights. A number of barristers are approved counsel for the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

We are seeking to recruit outstanding civil liberties and human rights advocates particularly with expertise and/or an interest in representing bereaved families at inquests. We welcome applications from practitioners of all levels of experience.

The successful candidate(s) can expect to build or enhance a rewarding practice advancing the rights of others. They should be committed to practising within the principles and ethos of Garden Court Chambers.

To apply, please complete and return the application form and equal opportunities monitoring form to miah@gclaw.co.uk

For a confidential, informal discussion in advance of applying, please contact Una Morris, Co-Convener of the Civil Liberties Team, on 020 7993 7773.

To find out more about our team and recent cases, visit our Civil Liberties and Human Rights pages.

All applications will be treated in strictest confidence.

Closing date: 13 September 2021

We seek to operate a fair recruitment policy. Applications from ethnic minority and women candidates are particularly welcome.
