COVID-19: BAR COUNCIL ADVICE AND INFORMATION

The Bar Council is keeping the coronavirus situation under review and monitoring the advice received from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and Public Health England. It advises members of the Bar and their colleagues in chambers or employment to also keep abreast of this advice. Information will be updated regularly here to reflect the most recent updates from HMCTS, the Legal Aid Agency, Ministry of Justice and other Government Agency Advice.

THE COVID-19 WORKING GROUP

The Bar Council, Legal Practice Management Association and Institute of Barristers’ Clerks have set up a COVID-19 Working Group (‘C19WG’), which aims to: identify the authoritative sources of information and guidance relating to the COVID-19 epidemic in the UK and impacting upon the Bar; and establish liaison and communications with appropriate agencies and organisations in order to provide advice on best practice to chambers and employers.

Regular bulletins from C19WG will include regulatory information, advice from the Law Society, wellbeing advice, guidance on chambers' governance and finance, best practice advice on chambers’ procedures and routine, ethical considerations, ‘at risk’ barristers, self-isolation, impact on training and pupillage applications etc.
